Throughout time, we have witnessed how Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) have improved the quality of our lives and made them more functional. Unfortunately, there is still a lack of ethnic diversity when it comes to those who work in STEM fields. The Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals (LAULYP) believes that if we are able to educate young people of color about the fascinating aspects of STEM now, we can help raise a generation with a heart to pursue STEM careers in the future and provide resources back to their own communities.
As a way to educate the youth about the wonderful aspects of STEM and their career options in this field, LAULYP will be hosting a STEM Conference at the Los Angeles Urban League for our National Day of Service. Through this conference, we aim to educate our attendees about the diverse aspects of STEM and encourage them to pursue a STEM career in the future. Our target audience is middle and high school students (grades 6 – 12). Along with other YP chapters around the country, we strive to make a difference in the minds and hearts of our youth and bring a positive move of action to our Los Angeles community.
You can definitely contribute to our cause by donating to the conference. The donations will go to providing supplies and give-a-ways to the students to make sure that they have a great experience. We believe that as a community we can make a positive change in a young person's life.
